before i show the true geeky me in this community... how do you write the "thorn"- and "eid"-letters here? should i write them in word and do a copy+paste here? or can i somehow write the letters here at LJ without having to do a copy+paste at all?

I usually set my "Language & Keyboard" settings to Icelandic in order to type out those and other letters specific to Old Norse/Old Icelandic.

I can type along in English and then change the setting (with one simple click on the "Language Bar" in Windows) to Icelandic and then back again. It does mean memorizing a whole new keyboard layout but with a little practice or "hunt and peck", it works for me.

And actually, the Icelandic keyboard isn't terribly different than the English one. Most of the changes happen with the brackets and apostrophes and the like.

Depends on which OS you use. In generally you can usually set your OS up to use an icelandic keyboard layout, or you can just learn some keystrokes which enter in some specific characters (I'm on linux, and hitting right-alt + t + h = þ)

Just google for "typing unicode characters "

You can just type them into Livejournal. You will have to mess with your keyboard settings though, but it doesn't mean you have to change the layout. I'm on a mac and changed mine from US English to US Extended, so now I just hit right alt and then t or d (and it's also nice because it allows you to easily do stuff like ý, which can be difficult to do otherwise). I would see if there's a Danish (I'm assuming you're using a Danish keyboard layout?) equivalent.

Er, and Windows has something similar, but it's not as intuitive as the Mac version.
