Subject:"Runify" a slogan?
Time:05:27 pm
I have this idea of writing my 'motto' in runes on a custom-made ring. To do that, it seems necessary to translate in to Old Norse (or runic Swedish) first... Can anyone help me out or at least point me to a right direction?

The motto is quite simple: "I refuse to fail". If you need a context, it's a simplified version of "Victory comes not from being the fastest or the strongest, but from refusal to fail".

Linguaphile guys translated it to Icelandic - "Ég neita að tapa", but advised to ask you for a more authentic wording.

Thanks in advance for any help on this.

I'm quite sure Old Norse, like Old English, doesn't treat double negatives the way modern English does. (Traces of the double-negative not cancelling out can be seen in phrases like "I ain't no failure".) Which makes me uncomfortable trying to translate that just on the chance that it would mean the opposite, which would suck.

Well, technically there is no double negative - given that you maintain the wording, i.e. don't substitute "refuse" with "don't want" or "fail" with "not succeed".

ok, so i'm not an expert, but i've studied this for a year or two, and in my opinion, i would guess the phrase you're looking for is...

Ég neita til thrjota

I refuse to fail

then you'd turn those into runes...

the best site i've found which shows the runes for old norse is here:
